As believers, we are called to emulate Christ’s sacrifice. Our love for others should not be limited to sweet words or empty promises, but should be proven through real actions, even to the point of sacrificing our time, energy, or resources for the good of others. True love always involves sacrifice, whether in terms of time, effort, or material possessions.

“If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
Here, John reminds us of the importance of engaging our hearts and actions in loving others. True love cannot be separated from empathy and concern for the needs of others. If we see someone in need and turn a blind eye, how can we claim that the love of God is in us? Genuine love moves us to act.
It’s not uncommon to hear someone say, “I love you,” but when an opportunity arises to help, they turn away. True love must be accompanied by action. Words without deeds are meaningless, while real actions are the proof that God’s love is alive in us.
True love is love that can be seen in concrete actions. It’s not just about giving what we have, but also about noticing others, feeling their pain, and doing our best to alleviate their burdens. Genuine love involves a deep concern for others’ needs and compels us to act—not just to talk about how we should love.
For example, if someone is hungry or in need of help, we cannot simply say, “I love you,” but we must go beyond words and help them in practical ways. True love is love that is visible, expressed through acts, attitudes, and kindness toward others.
John also emphasizes that love must be carried out in truth. Love based purely on emotions without a solid foundation in truth is incomplete. True love is grounded in God’s principles, which guide us to do good and treat others with respect, justice, and faithfulness.
In 1 John 3:16-18, we are called to follow the example of Christ. Who gave His life for us, and to embody that love in our daily lives. Love is not enough in words alone. It must be expressed through tangible actions, especially when we see suffering around us. True love involves sacrifice, attention, and deeds.
Let us live in love that does not only speak but also acts. In every opportunity that comes our way, let’s show God’s love through actions full of truth and care for others. True love is not only felt but also demonstrated in deeds that bring goodness to others.
